Their formulation—higher carbonation, heat-sensitive actives, and aggressive flavors—places specific demands on the CSD filling machine and downstream packaging. • Carbonation: Often 2.5–4.0 volumes CO₂ (higher than typical cola at ~2.2–2.6 vol), increasing foaming and pressure management needs.
• Actives: Taurine, caffeine, B-vitamins, and guarana are heat- and oxygen-sensitive; low dissolved oxygen is critical to shelf stability.
• Acidity & flavor: Low pH and strong flavors demand corrosion-resistant product contact and effective CIP.
• Package: Aluminum can is dominant for premium energy drinks; PET is common for value and large formats.

Energy drinks require isobaric (counter-pressure) filling to retain CO₂ and minimize oxygen pickup. Key parameters:

• Counter-pressure: Fill under CO₂ blanket at 0.3–0.5 MPa above equilibrium to suppress foaming.
• Snift/evacuation: Controlled de-pressurization to avoid fobing at the capper.

Can vs PET: Which Line?

Cans give the best oxygen barrier and premium shelf presence. A dedicated aluminum can filling machine with seam monitoring is ideal for 8,000–24,000 CPH lines.

For 500 ml–1.5 L value segments, a CSD rotary filler with pressure-rated PET and secure caps works well. Watch CO₂ retention in lightweight PET.

A chilled, efficient carbonator (mixing syrup/water/CO₂ at low temperature) stabilizes volumes. Undersized carbonation causes foaming and inconsistent Brix.

CIP and Passivation

Energy drink residues are sticky and acidic. A robust CIP-capable circuit with passivation protects the bowl and valves.

For cans, seam integrity is the shelf-life gate. Specify online seam inspection, not just post-batch checks.

• Regional brand: 9,000–12,000 CPH (can) or 8,000–12,000 BPH (PET).
• Export scale: 18,000–24,000+ CPH/ BPH.
• Match carbonator and capper to filler—bottleneck at either wastes the monoblock.
